Organic Market-Farming for Uncertain Times
At this workshop participants will learn about innovative approaches to building soil fertility and becoming more self-sufficient on the farm. Emphasis will be on using on-farm resources to make compost and compost tea, and cover cropping and rotations to build soil fertility and manage weeds such as bermuda grass, organically.
In these challenging times, says George Kuepper, manager of the center's horticulture projects, farms and farmers must be resilient. These challenges include climate change and its accompanying extreme weather, as well as possible supply disruptions and higher prices for fertilizers and chemicals.
The Kerr Center's certified organic Cannon Horticulture Project is the model for the organic methods to be explored in the workshop.
This educational event is presented with the support of a USDA NRCS Conservation Innovation Grant (CIG).
Cost: $35 includes lunch. Register by April 23. Print out registration form (link below) and return with check made out to Kerr Center by that date, or pay through PayPal or credit card here.
