Jim
Combs
Jim was raised on a diversified farm in central Missouri
and assisted with the care and production of the family’s
livestock operation. The farm consisted of a dairy herd, as well
as a brood sow, sheep, forage, and grain production.
Unable to attend college after graduating from Morgan
County High School, he went directly into agriculture related
occupations. Prior to coming to the Kerr Center in November 1990,
Jim was the cow herd manager at the International Livestock and
Learning Center for Heifer Project International, of Perryville,
Arkansas.
Jim is manager of the Overstreet-Kerr Historical Farm.
His responsibilities include the development, maintenance, and
promotion of the 143-acre, turn of the century farm, the conservation
and development of the Agricola/Schell, and Palmer/Dunn strains
of Pineywoods cattle, antique farm equipment display, and the
14-room historical home, used for the purpose of training, education,
and as a museum.
His community involvement includes the Spiro Chamber of
Commerce, Sallisaw Chamber of Commerce, Arkansas Valley Antique
Tractor Club, American Livestock Breeds Conservancy, and The
Pineywoods Cattle Breeders Association. |
