Anita
Poole
Anita Poole is the assistant to the president and legal counsel
for the Kerr Center. She has administrative duties to ensure the
smooth running of the Kerr Center and all of its programs. She works
in public policy and with grant development and is working to help
develop the Kerr Center's Institute of Sustainability. As the lawyer
for the Center, she is charged with the duties of research, writing,
and advising on legal issues affecting the Center.
Anita received a B.A. in English from the University of Arkansas
at Monticello. She further received her J.D. from the University
of Arkansas School of Law as well as her LL.M. in Agricultural Law
from the same institution. In fact, Anita was the second person
(and first female) to ever complete both the J.D. and LL.M. programs
all within three years.
After graduating law school, Anita worked for the National Center
for Agricultural Law Research and Information where she co-authored
several books on environmental laws affecting agriculture in various
states. She also co-authored and edited a major publication on Food
Safety Law for the FDA. Anita has been published in Drake Law Review
on "Adhesion Contracts, Bad Faith, and Economically Faulty
Contracts," and in the April 2001 edition of Food Technology
magazine with an article entitled "The Federal Matrix of Food
Safety Regulation." She has a special interest in food safety,
biotechnology and water rights issues.
Anita has two children, Ashley and Matthew. The family resides
in Poteau, Oklahoma. In her spare time, Anita enjoys reading, puzzles
and outdoor activities.
